Few things make a dog happier than a ball in flight. Getting the size right
Ball size is listed on most products, from about 5 cm (2 in) up to 10 cm. As a rule, choose a ball your dog can carry comfortably but can't fit completely into the mouth. Toy breeds and puppies often do well with 5 to 6 cm balls; bigger dogs need the larger options.
- Outdoor fetch: rubber, foam and tennis-style balls, plus the launcher.
- Water days: the E-TPU foam ball is listed as floating.
- Indoors or alone: self-moving rechargeable balls, bell balls and treat balls.
- Tug and throw: foam balls and knot balls with rope handles.
Tip: keep fetch balls for play sessions rather than leaving them out all day, and wash rubber balls with warm soapy water after muddy outings. Charge rechargeable balls fully before playtime.
